Childhood and upbringing
Tyrese grew up in a normal household in Cincinnati.
Miami Hurricanes
Tyrese left Cincinnati to play at Miami from 1986 through 1989 before returning home through the NFL Draft.
Drafted by his hometown team
The Bengals selected Tyrese 32nd overall in 1989. He spent his first two seasons on the bench before becoming the long-term quarterback for the franchise in the city where he had been born and raised.

Tyrese spent most of his career as a steady, high-floor quarterback before his game unexpectedly exploded in Seattle. He finished 172–66 in the regular season, three wins in four Super Bowl appearances. Cincinnati defeated Detroit 43–36 in XXXVII after the 2002 season and lost 26–20 to Minnesota in XXXVIII after the 2003 season. His revised overall postseason record is not yet documented.
His signature victory came in the 2002 AFC Championship. The 9–7 Bengals entered as 14-point underdogs against Cody Harrison’s 15–1 Chargers and won 29–17. Tyrese threw for 447 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions while Cody finished with 320 yards, no touchdowns and one interception.
The Seattle comeback transformed the ending of his career. Instead of declining quietly, Tyrese produced numbers far beyond his Cincinnati norms immediately before cancer ended the run.
